Lobos Post Another Low Round at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team continued its season-opening event on Saturday with the second round of play at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Club. The Lobos shot 8-under during the second round and are in 10th place at 14-under among the elite field that includes 10 preseason top-30 teams.

Auburn continues to lead the tournament and is at 34-under after 36 holes. Arizona State is second at 32-under, Florida State is third at 29-under and Tennessee is fourth at 27-under. San Diego State (22-under), Oregon (22-under), Washington (20-under), Arizona (19-under), Georgia Tech (18-under) and the Lobos round out the top 10.

“Overall, it was another good day,” said head coach Glen Millican. “Everyone played well today and we finished strong over the final three holes to pick up some shots. We put ourselves in position to have a good result to open the season.”

All five Lobos shot in red numbers on Saturday to post the 8-under round. Albert Boneta was the low Lobo on Saturday, shooting a 3-under round of 67 to finish the day T-20th on the individual leaderboard at 5-under. Matthew Watkins is also at 5-under through 36 holes after a second round 69 to follow his career-best 66 on Friday. Bastien Amat and Virgilio Paz each shot 2-under 68 in the second round, while Carson Herron posted a 1-under 69.

The Maui Jim Intercollegiate will conclude Sunday in Scottsdale.
