by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico women’s soccer team returns home for the first game of a two-game homestand on Thursday night when it hosts Portland State. The Lobos and Vikings will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex in a game that will be broadcast online on the Mountain West Network.

The game is sponsored by NMPRC – 811 Dig and there will be giveaways from 811 Dig for fans while supplies last.

The Lobos (1-1-1) are coming off a 1-1 draw at Texas Tech last week. UNM is led by Jadyn Edwards, who has four goals this season to tie for the Mountain West lead. She is the first Lobo to have four goals over the first three games of a season since Jennifer Williams in 2009.

The Vikings (1-2-1) are playing their first road game of the season with their visit to Albuquerque. Portland State is coming off a 2-2 draw with South Dakota in which Abi Hoffman scored her team-leading third goal of the season.

New Mexico has won all three previous meetings in the series. The teams last met in Portland in 2019 with UNM posting a 2-1 victory. The Vikings haven’t visited Albuquerque since 2004, also a 2-1 New Mexico win.

The Lobos will conclude the homestand on Sunday by hosting reigning WAC Champion Grand Canyon. Game time at the UNM Soccer Complex is 1 p.m. for that match.
