KANSAS CITY, Mo. – New Mexico senior midfielder Jadyn Edwards was named to the 2022 Hermann Trophy Watch List as the United Soccer Coaches announced the 60-player list on Thursday.
Edwards is the first player in program history to be selected to the Hermann Trophy Watch List and is the first Mountain West player honored since 2018.
The reigning Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, Edwards is a two-time first-team All-Mountain West selection. She led the Lobos with 11 goals and nine assists last season, helping UNM win the Mountain West title. Edwards scored the overtime golden goal in the 2-1 victory over Boise State in the Mountain West Tournament final.
The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation’s highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. In November, 15 semifinalists will be announced for the award, from which three finalists will be selected in December. The 2022 winner will be revealed on Jan. 6, 2023, at a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.
New Mexico opened the season with a 1-0 hard-fought loss to No. 6 Rutgers on Thursday night at the UNM Soccer Complex. The Lobos complete their opening week of play on Sunday, hosting Cal State Bakersfield at 1:30 p.m.
