BREMERTON, Wash. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team continued play Saturday at the Mountain West Championship with the second round at the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club. The reigning conference champion Lobos shot 3-under during the second round to climb up to eighth place at 9-over.

Colorado State is the second-round leader at 22-under. San Diego State is second at 20-under, Nevada is third at 9-under and Boise State is fourth at 5-under.

Sam Choi led the Lobos for the second straight day, shooting a 2-under 70 to sit at 1-under through 36 holes. Matthew Watkins also shot in red figures on Saturday with a 1-under 71. Bastien Amat and Carson Herron both shot even par 72 in the second round, while Brandon Shong rounded out the zUNM lineup with a 76.

“It was good that we were able to bounce back with a good round today,” said head coach Glen Millican. “We need to keep that up tomorrow and take better advantage of the par 5s. If we do that, we can finish the tournament strong.”

The Mountain West Championship concludes Sunday at Gold Mountain Golf Club.
