Lobos Drop 4-1 Decision to UNLV

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — New MExico played well in a loss for the second straight match, falling 4-1 to the 16-5 UNLV Rebels in a neutral site match in Colorado Springs.  UNM fell to 11-10 overall and 2-7 in the Mountain West and face second place San Diego State on Saturday at 2 in the Springs in its regular season finale.

UNM quickly fell behind in the doubles point 1-0 after a pair of 6-1 losses, but in singles it was a different story.  UNM got a win at No. 3 singles from Hsuan Huang and No. 1 singles Polly Chen was serving for her match when UNLV clinched the match was a third singles win.  Satoho Toriumi was down 7-5 after her first set when the match was halted.  Where it turned was at No. 4 singles, where Myu Kageyama put up a fierce battle before falling in a close match 7-5, 7-5.

The Lobos head to Tucson for the Mountain West Tournament next week, where they will play in the opening round. UNM can finish anywhere from the No. 7 seed all the way to No. 11.
