Bowerman Named to USATF Staff For Upcoming 2022 World Athletics Championships Oregon22
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The University of New Mexico track & field team will be well-represented at the 2022 World Athletics Championships Oregon22 as Lobo associate head coach Laura Bowerman was named to the USATF women’s coaching staff, announced the organization today.
The 2022 World Athletics Championships Oregon22 is set to run from July 15 through July 29, 2022, in Eugene, Oregon. This is the first time the event is coming to the U.S. in its history. The event will be held at the Hayward Field at the University of Oregon and will showcase the best track and field athletes from all over the world.
Bowerman joined the Lobos in October of 2015. Since then, she has helped lead the women’s cross country team to seven-straight Mountain West cross country titles, extending their streak to 14 in a row. She made an immediate impact on the women’s team as they took the title at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in both 2015 and 2017. On top of that, she has aided the success of 22 All-American honors and two individual NCAA Champions on the women’s team through the past nearly seven years.
On the oval, she has helped coach the women’s squad to 43 All-American honors combined through the last six seasons of both indoor and outdoor track & field. In outdoor track, two of her student-athletes won their respective events at the NCAA Championships, including Courtney Frerichs in the 3000m steeplechase in 2016 and Weini Kelati in the 10K run in 2019.
