Outstanding 5000m Results Highlight Day Two of Bryan Clay Invitational
AZUSA, Calif. – The University of New Mexico track & field team completed a day full of distance events on day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, on Thursday.
In the women’s 5000m invite section one, Adva Cohen, Gracelyn Larkin and Emma Heckel put up outstanding performances. Cohen set a new personal best as she ran a time of 15:29.51, almost two seconds better than her previous best of 15:31.01. Her time in the event currently puts her at third on the national qualifying list. Larkin came in shortly after her as she ran a time of 15:29.93, finding herself at fourth on the qualifying list. Heckel ran a time of 15:57.04 to put her in the top-20 on the qualifying list.
In the men’s 5000m invite, Abdirizak Ibrahim ran a time of 13:43.14, which would put him in at least the top-40 on the national qualifying list of the event.
The Lobos close out the Bryan Clay Invitational tomorrow, starting with the women’s 4x100m relay at 9:45 a.m. (PT). A handful of New Mexico sprinters will compete in the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., as well, starting at 1:55 p.m.
