BRYAN, Texas –– The New Mexico men’s golf team opened play at the Aggie Invitational on Saturday with the first two rounds at the Traditions Golf Club. The Lobos shot 3-over in the first round at 18-over in the second round to end the day T-4th at 21-over.
Host Texas A&M, ranked No. 23 nationally, leads the tournament at 6-over. No. 10 Arkansas is second at 15-over and seventh-ranked Texas Tech is third at 18-over. The Lobos and Houston are tied for fourth at 21-over.
“We played pretty well today,” said head coach Glen Millican. “Obviously we struggled with our last hole (combined 8-over among the scoring four), but overall we handled the course and the conditions well. Tomorrow will be as tough, if not tougher, so we still have a lot of golf to play and a lot to play for.”
Bastien Amat led the Lobos on Saturday, carding rounds of 69 and 74 to finish the day in third place on the individual leaderboard at 1-under. Matthew Watkins is at 5-over, Sam Choi is 6-over, while Carson Herron is 12-over and Brandon Shong is 17-over. Connor Adams, playing as an individual, is 10-over.
The Aggie Invitational concludes Sunday with the final round at the Traditions Golf Club.
