ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico track & field team completed the UNM Spring Invite, its first home outdoor meet of the season, with nine first place event finishes.

This meet included a few local schools as New Mexico State, New Mexico Highlands, Adams State and Fort Lewis CC made up the competitors, along with New Mexico. The Lobos utilized this meet to improve on their skills and have some student-athletes compete in events they don’t usually compete in.

The eight Lobos who placed first in their respective event include Darryl Thomas in long jump, Victoria Villanueva in pole vault, Adam Giron in high jump, Alyssa Magallanez in long jump, Kevin Mulcaire in 1500m, Rivaldo Leacock in both the 200m dash and 400m dash, Matthew Larkin in 800m and Sarah Eckel in 800m.

Two Lobos, Emily Ho and Victoria Plummer, are competing in the heptathlon on both Friday and Saturday. Friday’s events include 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m dash, beginning at 1:15 p.m. (CT). Saturday’s events will start at 2 p.m. and include long jump, javelin and 800m dash.

The Lobos will head to the Golden State for two meets next week. The team will compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., on April 13-15 and the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on April 13-16.
