PHOENIX, Ariz. – The New Mexico women’s golf team had a strong final round on Sunday of the PING/ASU Invitational, hosted by Arizona State at the Papago Golf Course. The Lobos shot 2-over during third round to finish tied for eighth place at 17-over in an event that featured an elite field of 12 top-50 teams.

The tournament host, the eighth-ranked Sun Devils won the at 25-under. Second-ranked Oregon was second at 10-under and top-ranked Stanford and No. 19 Baylor finished tied for third at 2-under. The Lobos tied for eighth with No. 7 Virginia and finished six strokes ahead of No. 10 Michigan.

Lauren Lehigh had the lo round of the day for the Lobos, shooting a 1-under 71 after opening her day with four straight birdies. Jenny Lertsadwattana shot even par in the final round to finish T-8th at 4-under for the weekend. Myah McDonald shot 73, Chloe Lauer shot 74 and Caroline Jansson shot 81 in the final round.

“The team hung tough today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “If we had a bogey, we would make up for it with a birdie. We had some nice head-to-head wins against some highly ranked schools.”

The Lobos will travel to Washington for their final regular season tournament next month, playing the Chambers Bay Invitational on April 11-12.
