AWENDAW, S.C. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team suffered a slow start during the opening round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay on Sunday at the Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Lobos shot 2-over during the first round to finish the day in 14th place.
Host South Carolina is the 18-hole leader at 17-under, followed by Ole Miss at 11-under. East Tennessee State (8-under), NC State (7-under) and Missouri and Auburn (5-under) round out the top five.
“It was a tough round for us,” said head coach Glen Millican. “A couple of guys struggled today, but we still have two more rounds to get things going. We are looking forward to the opportunity to bounce back tomorrow morning.”
Carson Herron had the low round of the day for the Lobos, shooting a 4-under 68. Sam Choi also shot in red numbers, posting a 2-under 70 on Sunday. Matthew Watkins carded a 1-over 73 while Bastien Amat shot 79 and Brandon Shong shot 80 to round out the UNM lineup. Connor Adams shot 76 in the first round while playing as an individual.
The Hootie at Bulls Bay will continue Monday and conclude Tuesday in South Carolina.
