DALLAS, Texas – The New Mexico women’s golf team opened play Monday at the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU at Trinity Forest Golf Club. The Lobos shot 31-over on a frigid day of play to be in second place when the second round was halted due to darkness.
New Mexico was seventh after shooting 26-over in the morning’s first round, but moved up during the afternoon with a 6-over second round, which the Lobos have one hole left to complete.
Texas Tech leads the tournament at 19-over, followed by Lobos at 31-over. Tulsa is third at 32-over, South Florida is fourth at 33-over and UNLV and Texas State are tied for fifth at 34-over. Of the top six teams, only Tulsa completed its second round.
Myah McDonald and Lauren Lehigh are the top Lobos on individual leaderboard, T-13th at 7-over. Caroline Jansson is at 11-over, Jenny Lertsadwattana is at 12-over and Chloe Lauer is at 15-over.
“Today was probably one of the worst weather days we have ever played in,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Having said that, we still made a lot of silly mistakes that were avoidable. The ladies got their heads back into that game in the second round. We moved up but still have some work to do tomorrow.”
The Trinity Forest Invitational concludes Tuesday with completion of the second round and the third round.
