LAS VEGAS, Nev. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team continued play Monday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate with the second round at Southern Highlands Country Club. The Lobos shot 1-under during the second round and are in ninth place at 9-under as they compete in an elite field that includes seven top-25 teams.
Top-ranked Oklahoma continues to lead the tournament with a score of 26-under. No. 15 Texas is second at 19-under, while No. 5 Pepperdine, No. 9 Georgia and No. 24 Pepperdine are tied for third at 16-under.
“We had another good round today,” said head coach Glen Millican. “Today’s hole locations were tough, so 1-under today was solid.”
Brandon Shong led the Lobos for the second straight day, posting a 1-under 71 to finish the day at 5-under overall. Matthew Watkins also shot 71 on Monday and is at 1-over for the tournament. Carson Herron shot 72 in the second round to remain at 4-under, while Sam Choi shot 73 and Bastien Amayshot 85 to round out the UNM lineup.
The Southern Highlands Collegiate will conclude Tuesday in Las Vegas.
