ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Lobo women’s tennis team heads east to the Lone Star State for a pair of matches over the weekend as the team looks to keep and extend its three-match winning streak.  The Lobos face the Lamar Cardinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. before making the short drive to face McNeese on Sunday, also at 10 am.  There will not be live stats available at either match.

UNM is sitting at 6-1 on the season, with a pair of three-match winning streaks surrounding the lone loss, a 5-2 decision to Northern Arizona.  Since that loss, the Lobos have taken care of business with three straight 5-2 wins, beating Abilene Christian, New Mexico State and Grand Canyon.

Where it’s gone well is in singles play, as UNM has taken 14 of a possible 18 points in singles in the current three-match streak.  It’s been the middle of UNM’s lineup that has inflicted the most damage, going a perfect 9-0 at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles.  Myu Kagayama and Hsiang-Wen “Albie” Huang are each 3-0, Hsuan Huang is 2-0 and Sarah O’Connor is 1-0, and that has taken the pressure off doubles and everyone else.  UNM will look to continue that hot play in the middle of the lineup against a 5-2 Lamar squad that takes on Houston on Thursday night.

The Cardinals have won five straight, allowing just two points over those five matches.  Sunday’s match against McNeese features a team that is just 1-6, but 1-1 in its last two, having beaten Grambling 4-1 but losing to 4-0 to Louisiana-Lafayette.
