ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Lobos officially begin the final step to the NCAA Indoor Championships as the indoor track at the east halls of the Albuquerque Convention Center plays host to all 11 conference schools for the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend.
Thursday’s events consist of multi events as the men’s heptathlon and women’s pentathlon start at 10 a.m. (MT), then finish the day with the men’s and women’s distance medley relays starting at 4 p.m.
On Friday, the men’s heptathlon will wrap up its final three events starting at 10 a.m. Field events will then begin at 12:30 p.m. with men’s weight throw scheduled first and track events will follow at 1:30 p.m., beginning with the qualifying women’s mile. On Saturday, field events begin at 9:30 a.m. with men’s high jump going first and track events start with the women’s mile at 11:10 a.m.
Multiple Lobos are close to hitting a qualifying mark or time going into this final meet before the NCAA Championships. The top-16 in each event automatically qualify for the championships.
Camillo Dunninger currently sits at 13th in the men’s pentathlon with 5684 points. Three women are qualified in the 5000 meter going into this meet, including Adva Cohen (4th), Emma Heckel (14th) and Gracelyn Larkin (15th).
Not far from qualifying are Jevon O’Bryant (22nd in the 400m), Tianna Holmes (33rd in the 400m), Abdirizak Ibrahim (25th in the mile, 28th in the 3000m and 22nd in the 5000m), Abbe Goldstein (21st in the mile), Elise Thorner (33rd in the mile), Gracelyn Larkin (34th in the 3000m), Aidan Quinn (35th in triple jump) and Matthew Larkin (40th in the 800m).
The Lobos’ men’s team have won three conference championships from 2013-2015. The women’s team won the conference title in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for March 11-12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
