Dunninger Named MW Field Athlete of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Lobo track and field heptathlete Camillo Dunninger has been named the Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week, announced the conference on Tuesday.
In his first multi event of the season, Dunninger exceeded expectations in the heptathlon at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Feb. 4-5. He broke the school hep record with 5684 points, surpassing the previous record by 94 points (formerly 5590 by Richard York in 2013). Dunninger set new personal bests in five of the seven events, including 1000m run (2:46.97), 60m dash (7.13s), high jump (2.02 m), 60m hurdles (8.5s) and pole vault (5m).
The Ratingen, Germany, native is currently sitting at No. 11 on the NCAA Division I Qualifying List and first in the Mountain West in the heptathlon.
The Lobos are set to host their final indoor meet, before the Mountain West Championships, on Feb. 11-12 on their home track at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Events are currently scheduled to start at 2 p.m. (MT) on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The squad will also send five distance runners to the Husky Invitational on Friday, hosted by the University of Washington. Those events will start at 4:15 p.m. (PT) at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash.
