Dunninger Leads Lobos in First Day of New Mexico Collegiate Classic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Lobos completed a successful first day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic at the Albuquerque Convention Center, led by an outstanding performance in the heptathlon by Camillo Dunninger.

Through four events in the heptathlon, Dunninger holds first place out of nine competing in the multi-event. He currently has 3316 points and placed first in the long jump (7.04m) and high jump (2.02m) events. The men’s heptathlon will conclude on Saturday, starting with the 60m hurdles at 9:45 a.m. (MT), then pole vault at 10:30 a.m. and end with the 1000m run at 1:10 p.m.

Matthew Larkin ran a time of 1:49.18 (altitude-adjusted) in the 800m invitational, beating his previous best of 1:49.88 which he ran last week in the New Mexico Team Open. His time in the event continues to lead the Mountain West and moves him up from 32nd to t-20th on the NCAA Division I Qualifying List this season.

Darryl Thomas set a new personal best in the long jump with a mark of 7.11m. Emily Ho placed 10th in the women’s pentathlon, scoring her best in the high jump with a mark of 1.67m.

The second and final day of the NM Collegiate Classic is set for Saturday, starting with the heptathlon events at 9:45 a.m. The first track event, 60m dash qualifiers, is set for 10:20 a.m. The first field event is 1 p.m. as women’s “A” pole vault opens things up. The meet will end with the women’s 4×400 relay at 2:45 p.m.
