Lobos Set to Host Two-Day New Mexico Collegiate Classic
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Lobos are set to host 24 teams, including seven Power-5 schools, at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic this Friday and Saturday. Events are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. (MT) on Friday with the last event scheduled for 8:45 p.m. that day. On Saturday, events start at 9:45 a.m. and the last event is set for 2:45 p.m.
Last week, the Lobos found lots of success on the track as nine total Lobos reached the national qualifying top-50 list in their respective events. Abdirizak Ibrahim led the way as he recorded the 10th best time in the mile this season with a time of 3:56.69 (altitude-adjusted). In the women’s mile, three Lobos found a spot on the top-50. Abbe Goldstein recorded a time of 4:36.97 for 15th best, Stefanie Parsons ran a time of 4:40.73 for the No. 33 spot and Gracelyn Larkin recorded a 4:42.56 time for the 50th spot. Matthew Larkin secured the 32nd best time in the 800m with a time of 1:49.88. In the women’s distance medley relay, Isabella Fauria, Ryan Little, Semira Mebrahtu Firezghi and Andrea Modin Engesaeth ran a time of 12:01.61 for the 46th spot on the national qualifying list.
In the USTFCCCA’s most recent national rating index, released on Monday, the Lobo women’s squad was ranked No. 25, moving up three spots from the 28th spot last week. The men’s team also continues to climb the rankings as they jumped up 23 spots to the 56th place.
Among the teams coming are seven Power-5 schools, including Arkansas (whose women are ranked No. 2), Texas (women and men both ranked No. 3), LSU (women ranked No. 5), Texas Tech (men ranked No. 2 and women ranked No. 6), Arizona State, Miami and TCU. The Lobos will also welcome some Mountain West opponents this week as San Diego State and Colorado State compete.
Spectators are welcome to the Albuquerque Convention Center for all of New Mexico’s home meets but are required to wear a mask at all times, unless eating or drinking. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the “Tickets” link above or on site on the day of the meet.
