Holmes Sets School Record, Nine Lobos Crack Top-50 National List at UNM Team Open

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Lobos finished the UNM Team Open at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday with nine more Lobos in the top-50 nationally in their events, a new school record and many top-20 conference performances.

Highlighting the meet was Tianna Holmes who set a new school record in the 200m dash with a time of 23.96 seconds. The previous record remained untouched for nearly 13 years as Ariel Burr ran a time of 24.20 on February 7, 2009. Holmes’ time also put her at the third-best time in the event in the Mountain West.

On the nationally ranked list, a total of nine Lobos cracked the top-50 in their respective event, including seven women and two men. The quartet of Isabella Fauria, Ryan Little, Semira Mebrahtu Firezghi and Andrea Modin Engesaeth sit at No. 43 nationally with a time of 12:01.61 in the distance medley relay.

In the mile event, three Lobos found their way into the top-50 in the NCAA Division I list. Abbe Goldstein is currently 14th with a time of 4:36.97, Stefanie Parsons sits at No. 31 with a time of 4:40.73 and Gracelyn Larkin is 48th with a time of 4:42.56. G. Larkin and Parsons are also in the top-50 nationally in the 5000m event (ran at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 4, 2021) at No. 11 and No. 37, respectively.

On the men’s side, Matthew Larkin and Abdirizak Ibrahim made their way onto the top-50 nationally. M. Larkin sits at No. 31 in the 800m event with a time of 1:49.88. Ibrahim made his way into 10th place in the mile with a time of 3:56.69. Ibrahim also sits at 11th place in the 5000m event with a time of 13:32. 78 (set at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 4, 2021).

Jevon O’Bryant holds the best time in the 200m dash in the Mountain West, running a time of 21.40 seconds in today’s meet.

The Lobos are set to compete on their home track at the Albuquerque Convention Center for the next two weekends. They host the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Friday-Saturday, February 4-5, with events starting at noon (MT) on Friday and a start time of 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
