ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Student-athletes at The University of New Mexico have consistently led the way in the classroom, and the Fall, 2021 semester was no different.  Lobo student-athletes recorded a 3.29 overall grade point average, another top-10 mark for the department.  UNM has grade history for the past 71 semesters, back to 1986.

It marked the 27th straight semester that Lobo student-athletes turned in at least a 3.0 GPA, dating back to the fall of 2008.  Overall, 59 student-athletes recorded a 4.0 or better GPA and 288 recorded a 3.0 or better GPA.

Additionally, UNM’s female student-athletes turned in a 3.54 GPA, the 23rd straight semester with at least a 3.4 GPA and the seventh straight with a 3.5 GPA.  UNM’s male student-athletes had a 3.05 GPA, the 20th semester in the last 21 with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Among individual programs, the women’s golf team turned in the best GPA for the semester at 3.93, marking the sixth straight semester with a 3.9 or better.  The program has been the Academic National Champion in women’s golf three straight years, and could be on the way to a fourth.

On the women’s side, women’s tennis (3.70), two-time defending Mountain West champion women’s soccer (3.68) and track & field/cross country (3.58) all broke the 3.5 GPA mark.

On the men’s side, the golf team recorded the top GPA with a 3.61, followed closely by tennis, which recorded a 3.54 under new coach Chris Russell.  Lobo baseball in its first semester under new coach Tod Brown set a program record with a 3.41 GPA.
