ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After not hosting an indoor meet for 22 months, the University of New Mexico track & field team returned to their home track with a purpose as the Lobos set 19 personal records, a school record and recorded two first place finishes.
In his first event as a Lobo, Jevon O’Bryant headlined the meet as he set a new school record and earned a personal record of 1:17.5 in the 600m run and placed second in the event. He beat the previous record set by Mark Haywood on January 27, 2018, by .6 seconds.
Two Lobos placed first in their respective events, as well. Running unattached, Hannah Miller took first place in the 3000m run with a time of 9:30.9, outrunning the competition by 25 seconds. Elise Thorner placed first in the mile run with a time of 4:52, her personal best in the event.
In his first event as a Lobo, Victor Akhalu ran the 60m dash in 6.78 seconds, earning the second-best time in MW this season and fourth place in the event. Other Lobos that earned top spots in their events include Alix Rule in pole vault (3.53 m for second), Gavin Sleeter in the 600m run (1:19.42 for third), Aidan Quinn in triple jump (15.46 for second), Samree Dishon in the mile (4:56.79 for second) and Abbe Goldstein who ran the 800m unattached (2:08.15 for second).
Emily Ho set a new personal best in high jump with a mark of 1.67 meters. In her first collegiate event, Mikyla Harkley hit a mark of 11.46 meters in triple jump for a personal best. In the 60m dash, Baylor Walton ran a time of 8.81 for her first collegiate event and personal record. Semira Mebrahtu Firezghi ran her first mile event, earning a mark of 5:08.4. Preslie Coffey set a personal record in the 400m with a time of 1:06.2. Ryan Little ran a time of 26.34 in the 200m dash for a new personal best.
Camillo Dunninger set two new personal records with a mark 7.21 meters in the long jump event and a time of 8.62 in 60m hurdles. In Adam Giron’s second collegiate event, he showed steady growth as he earned a mark of 1.97 meters in high jump, beating his first mark by .02 meters. In their first mile event, Matthew Larkin and Nehemiah Cionelo set personal bests with times of 4:18.95 and 4:24.38, respectively. Ethan Brouw set a personal best time of 1:56.84 in the 800m run, running his first collegiate events today.
The Lobos are set to compete on their home track at the Albuquerque Convention Center for the next three weekends. They host the UNM Team Open on Saturday, Jan. 29 with events starting at 8:45 a.m. (MT).
