ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s basketball team returns to action on Saturday for its Mountain West opener at Nevada. Tipoff in Reno is 7 pm MT (6 pm PT) and the game will be broadcast on FS1 and the Lobo Radio Network.
The game is the conference opener for both teams after each had their scheduled opener postponed. New Mexico was supposed to open Mountain West play on Dec. 28 by hosting No. 20 Colorado State, while Nevada was supposed to visit San Jose State on Dec. 29.
The Lobos (7-6) are coming off a 68-54 victory over Norfolk State in their non-conference finale on Dec. 21 at The Pit. Jaelen House had 16 points and six assists to lead UNM, while Jamal Mashburn, Jr. added 13 points for his 12th double-figure game of the season. Emmanuel Kuac had a career-night for the Lobos, setting career-highs of 11 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists vs. the Spartans.
The Wolf Pack (6-5) are coming off an 88-61 loss on Wednesday night at No. 6 Kansas in a game scheduled to replace cancelled games for both schools. Grant Sherfield and Desmond Cambridge, Jr., each scored 16 points against the Jayhawks.
Nevada leads the all-time series 10-7 and has won the last five meetings. The Lobos’ last win in the series was an 85-58 victory over the then-No. 6 Wolf Pack in 2019 at The Pit. UNM’s last win in Reno was in 2016, a 71-66 victory in the regular season finale.
The Lobos are scheduled to open their home Mountain West schedule on Jan. 8 when they host Utah State. Game time at The Pit is 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. Tickets for all UNM home games at The Pit are available online at GoLobos.com/tickets.
