Lobo Softball Adds Baylor to 2022 Class

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobo softball team has added another versatile piece to their 2022 class in Elizabeth Baylor, a utility player from Richmond, Texas.

“Elizabeth will play an important role in helping us gain momentum next year,” stated head softball coach Paula Congleton. “We are looking forward to seeing her contribute and play a vital part in the success of Lobo softball. Elizabeth is a very talented and competitive player who is an excellent student and who will fit in extremely well at UNM.”

Able to play center field, first base or as a utility player, Baylor attends Churchill Fulshear High School where she set the school record for stolen bases with 23. In addition, throughout her high school career she was named to the 4A second team all-district and 5A second team all-district team. Her freshman season, the newest Lobo held a .364 batting average and improved her batting average to .481 by her junior year.

Beyond her abilities on the field, Baylor was a co-founder of the African American Student Union, a member of HOSA and a member of the student council.

At the club level, the Texas native played for the Houston Power, the Aces Express and the Texas Bombers and was a part of the Astros RBI Championship. She also coaches softball in her free time.

Intending to major in psychiatry, Baylor chose UNM because, “UNM is a great place for me to thrive academically and athletically. I love the environment on and off the field and the family dynamic is exactly what I was looking for in a college.”
