ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s basketball team begins a six-game December homestand on Monday as it hosts New Mexico State for the second game of this season’s Rio Grande Rivalry. Tipoff at The Pit is 7 pm. and the game will be available to watch online on the Mountain West Network and broadcast on the Lobo Radio Network.
The game is a Cherry Out as fans are encouraged to wear Cherry to the game.
The Lobos (5-3) won the first meeting of the year between the rivals, winning 101-94 last week in Las Cruces. Jaelen House scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Lobos, while Jamal Mashburn, Jr. scored 19 points to continue his streak of scoring in double figures in every game this season. Jay Allen-Tovar had 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds to post his first career double-double. New Mexico was the first visiting team to score 100 points at the Pan American Center since 2009.
The Aggies (6-2) are coming off a 72-69 victory at UTEP on Friday, as they played in a game in between the two Rio Grande Rivalry matchups. New Mexico State is led by Nebraska transfer Teddy Allen, who is averaging 17.6 points per game and had 31 points against the Lobos in Las Cruces.
The series dates back to 1904 and the teams played at least twice every season from 1945-46 to 2019-20 before last year’s meetings were cancelled due to the pandemic. The Lobos lead the series 123-102 and have won the last three meetings, both games in 2019-20 and this year’s first matchup.
