ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.– The homestand continues for the Lobo women’s basketball team as New Mexico hosts Northern New Mexico on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
Friday’s game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network or fans can listen to the game called by J.J. Buck and Nikki Heckroth-Lobato on 610 AM KNML/ 95.9 FM.
The Lobos opened the season on Tuesday night with a 17-point victory over Lamar in which New Mexico scored 18 points in three of the four quarters and 17 points in the first.
UNM finished with four scorers in double figures, led by Antonia Anderson’s game-high 16 points, followed by Jaedyn De La Cerda and Shaiquel McGruder at 15 each and LaTora Duff with 10. Duff was one assist shy of a double-double, tying her career high with nine assists, and nearly matching Lamar’s team total in assists as the Cardinals had 10 in the game. McGruder was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field, one of two Lobos to go perfect from the floor.
Freshman Aniyah Augmon and sophomore Kath van Bennekom provided the spark off of the bench, with Augmon recording a full stat sheet with eight points (3-for-3 shooting), six rebounds (tying the team high) and three steals (a team high), and van Bennekom going 2-for-3 and crashing the glass for three offensive rebounds.
De La Cerda found her shot in the third quarter, accounting for 14 of UNM’s 18 points in the quarter on 5-of-9 shooting and going 3-for-3 from the free-throw line, while the defense held the Cardinals to nine points in the quarter.
On the other side of the court, Northern New Mexico has played four games this season, winning two games against Southwest and one against Embry-Riddle before losing to Benedictine Mesa in its last game.
The Lady Eagles are led by Chris’Alee Patterson, who averages 12.0 points per game, and Rachel Williams, who is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game.
