Lobos Conclude Exhibition Schedule with Win Against ENMU
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— For the second-straight game, the New Mexico women’s basketball team had four Lobos finish in double figures, with three of those players recording double digits in both games, as the Lobos defeated Eastern New Mexico 88-72.
Jaedyn De La Cerda led all scorers with 21 points, followed by 15 from fellow senior Antonia Anderson and 14 from LaTora Duff. In her second collegiate appearance, freshman Vianè Cumber again reached double figures in scoring, hitting three, three-pointers and a layup for 11 points.
Another Lobo that had a strong showing was Aniyah Augmon, with the freshman grabbing eight rebounds and scoring eight points.
Senior Shaiquel McGruder filled the stat sheet with a balanced nine points, nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks and five steals, while Anderson added four steals, two assists, a block and five rebounds to her 15 points.
After a slow start in the first quarter, the Lobos found their footing in the second quarter, outscoring Eastern New Mexico 30-17 in the quarter behind four three-pointers and shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. UNM closed the quarter on a 10-0 run with Anderson starting the run on a second chance layup, two De La Cerda three-pointers and two Augmon free throws.
A McGruder and-1 close to midway through the third quarter stretched the lead to 20, with the leading reaching 27 points on a Cumber layup and again on a layup by Zeyno Seren.
The Greyhounds closed the gap in the fourth quarter, but the Lobo lead wasn’t in doubt.
UNM concludes its exhibition portion of the schedule and opens up the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 9 against Lamar at 7 p.m. at home.
