Billy Barker Named Baseball Volunteer Assistant Coach

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico baseball program has added Billy Barker as its volunteer assistant coach. In this role, Barker will be coaching the catchers and assisting with the hitters, along with coordinating all the Lobos’ baseball camps.

Before joining the Lobos, Barker spent the summer working with USA Baseball as a player development coach in the Appalachian League, a summer collegiate league sponsored by MLB. He also spent the summer of 2019 as the assistant coach for the Eau Claire Express, a summer collegiate team in the highly regarded Northwoods League. He aided in leading the Express to the Northwoods Championship game that year.

Barker’s longest tenure was as the assistant coach at Paradise Valley Community College from the fall of 2018 to the spring of 2021. While there, the Pumas posted winning records in 2019 (29-24) and 2020 (17-10), while also advancing to the 2021 NJCAA Region I tournament.

A Tacoma, Wash., native, Barker moves to Albuquerque with his wife, Megan, and their daughter, Mollie. He graduated from Central Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2018. Barker also earned a master’s degree in sports administration from Arkansas State University in 2020. He played three years of collegiate baseball, including one season at Central Washington and two seasons at Green River Community College.
