by Frank Mercogliano

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Zaria Katesigwa continued Lobo Soccer’s run of honors, earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week after scoring her league-leading sixth goal of the season over the weekend as UNM swept a pair from Wyoming and Colorado State.  Joining her with weekly honors was Utah State’s Jordan Foraker as Offensive Player of the Week and Jocelyn Stephens of Boise State as Defensive Player of the Week.

The other two award winners represent UNM’s opponents in two big home matches this week as UNM hosts 9-1-1 (2-0-0) Utah State on Friday night at 7:30 pm and Boise State on Sunday at 1 pm.  The Friday night game should have a big crowd on hand for Youth Sports and Team Day, as all children in youth sports jerseys will be admitted free.  Sunday’s match is Faculty/Staff Day, Teacher Appreciation Day and High School Day.

Katesigwa scored the eventual game-winner against Wyoming on Friday night in the 16th minute when she corraled a rebound and punded it home for her sixth goal of the season.  She then assisted on the third goal of the game eight minutes later in the opening half, giving her a three-point night in UNM’s 4-1 win over Wyoming.  The game-winning goal was her third of the season.
