Men’s Golf Finishes 10th at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The New Mexico men’s golf team concluded its season-opening tournament on Sunday with the third round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at the Mirabel Golf Club. The Lobos shot 6-under during Sunday’s play to finish tied for 10th place at 6-under, posting a better score each round of the event.

Bastien Amat was the low Lobo at the tournament, shooting a 6-under 64 on Sunday to finish at 6-under overall after even par rounds the first two days. Sam Choi shot an even par 70 in the final round to finish at 5-under. Matthew Watkins shot in red numbers for the second straight round with a 2-under 68 to finish at 1-under. Carson Herron rounded out the lineup with a final round 72 while Albert Boneta shot a 73 in the third round. Brandon Shong, playing as an individual, shot even par in the final round to finish at 1-under.

“Today was another solid round for us,” said head coach Glen Millican. “Great job by Bastien and Matthew today during the final round. It was not where we wanted to finish, but there were definitely some positives we can take from the last two rounds.”

Georgia Tech (-44) was the wire-to-wire winner of the event, edging Clemson (-43) by one stroke. Auburn finished third at 31-under.

The Lobos return to action on Sept.24-25 when they host the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the UNM Championship Golf Course.
