Lobos Drop Opener 1-0 to UC Davis
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — In a game that was fairly even all the way through, UC Davis’ Leslie Fregoso broke through with the games’ lone tally to give UC Davis a 1-0 win over New Mexico in the season opener for both teams. The Lobos (0-1-0) have two days off before taking on Dixie State, who defeated UNLV 2-1 with a late goal in the nightcap.
Both teams recorded 14 shots, but UC Davis put more on net (8-3). UNM was able to put more pressure on the UC Davis net in the second half, getting all three shots on frame during the second half, but nothing got past Nicki Rucki, who had three saves in recording the clean sheet. Malia Vanisi turned in seven saves for UNM. Cami Floth led the way with four shots, two on net.
Along with the shots being even, each team had three corners apiece, and UC Davis led in possession 55%-45%.
