ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Not only were Andrea Howard and Cameryn O’Grady stellar on the softball field for The University of New Mexico in 2021, the duo were also exceptional in the classroom, earning a spot on the 2021 Academic All-District® Softball Team.
Thursday’s announcement marked the second career CoSIDA accolade for Howard and the first for O’Grady. The standout student-athletes both carried a 4.0 GPA in the 2020-21 academic year, with Howard majoring in biology and O’Grady in the public administration graduate program.
Howard was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and Second Team All-American as a sophomore and both O’Grady and Howard have been named UNM Scholar-Athlete every year.
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The selections were divided into geographic districts for a total of eight districts, with New Mexico in District 7 with Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas universities.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late July.
