Ibrahim's Season Comes to an End at U.S. Olympic Trials, Two Former Lobos Advance to 1500m UK Finals

EUGENE, Ore. —  Abdirizak Ibrahim of The University of New Mexico track and field team had an impressive rookie outing at the U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing in 11th place in his heat and 13th place overall in the men’s 1500m, posting a time of 3:43.45.

Ibrahim spent the race at a steady place, exchanging spots with Reebok Boston TC’s Graham Crawford often. Despite an impressive performance, Ibrahim’s rookie outing has come to an end in Oregon.

At the U.K. Olympic Trials, former Lobo Josh Kerr finished in first place of his heat of the 1500m and has qualified for the UK Olympic Qualifier final. Kerr ran a 3:44.46 in the race. Also qualifying for the final in the 1500m was former Lobo Max Wharton, who finished third in his heat with a time of 3:47.46. Both Lobos will advance to the 1500m final, which will take place tomorrow at 8:35 a.m. MT.

With temperatures forecast in the triple digits for Saturday and Sunday in Oregon, there has been a time change for the U.S. women’s 10,000m final, which will now be run in one section at 11:00 a.m. MT on Saturday, June 26. Both Lobo National Champions Weini Kelati and Ednah Kurgat will run in the race.

More former Lobos will be competing tomorrow at the UK Trials. Those Lobos are as follows:

6:35 a.m. MT – Men’s 800m Semifinal – Michael Wilson

8:55 a.m. MT – Men’s 1500m Final – Josh Kerr and Max Wharton

9:30 a.m. MT – Women’s 3000m Steeplechase – Hannah Nuttall
