ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Current and former Lobos all over the world will be representing the University of New Mexico track and field team in the Olympic Trials.

One of those Lobos is Courtney Frerichs, who is no stranger to the Olympic Stage. Frerichs claimed a silver medal in the 2017 World Championships in London. She finished just behind USA’s Emma Coburn, thus making Coburn and Frerichs the first female Americans to win the gold and silver medal in any individual World Championships or Olympics race longer than 400 meters since the 1912 Stockholm Games. Frerichs currently holds the American and North American (NACAC) records in the steeplechase and the #6 mark all-time with a time of 9:00.85.

In 2016, Frerichs won the NCAA title in the 3000 Steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, dominating the field to win in an NCAA-record time of 9:24.41.

The first round of the 3000m Steeplechase took place on Sunday, and Frerichs finished in fifth place overall with a time of 9:27.75. The final, Olympic qualifying round of this event will take place Thursday at 9:47 p.m. MT.

Two-time NCAA Champion Weini Kelati Frezghi (Outdoor – 10k and XC – 6K) will be running in the 10k, which is tabbed to take place Sat., June 26 at 7:44 p.m. MT. Kelati’s personal-best time in the race is 31:10.08. Also in the race is cross country National Champion Ednah Kurgat, who currently holds a personal best time of 31:21.65 in the race, which she set earlier this season.

Current Lobo, Abdirizak Ibrahim, will be competing in the men’s 1500m, with the first round taking place on Thursday, June 24 at 7:04 p.m. MT. The final round of this event will take place Sunday at 6:10 p.m. MT. Ibrahim currently holds a personal best time of 3:37.19 in the event.

Three-time National Champion, Josh Kerr, will be competing for the UK at the Muller British Athletics Championships in the 1500m. Since his time with the Lobos, Kerr has not been stopped, most recently posting the fastest 1500m time on American soil, running an incredible 3:31.55 in the race for a first-place finish. The first round of this race will take place Friday at 12:55 p.m. MT, with the finals scheduled for 8:35 a.m. MT on Saturday.
