ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.Dominic West, who helped led UNM to a Mountain West title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, was honored by the ITA as the Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year.  He is the third Lobo to ever earn that honor.

West in 2021 became the first five-year letterwinner in Lobo men’s tennis history. He went 7-6 overall on the year but was a perfect 4-0 in Mountain West singles and he went 5-1 in Mountain West doubles.  West finished his career ranked 27th on the all-time doubles wins list at UNM, and he is a four-time All-Mountain West selection.  He is the first Lobo to be named ITA Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year since Johnny Parkes earned the honor in 2009.

The only other Lobo to earn the honor was Divan Coetzee in 2004.

The honor was the biggest of several picked up by UNM.  The Lobos finished the year with a final regional ranking of No. 3, behind only Denver and Utah.  Raul Dobai, the Mountain West Newcomer and Player of the Year was ranked No. 4 in the final Mountain West singles rankings, with West finishing in a tie for 10th and Stepan Holis was ranked 19th.

West and Sergio Molina were ranked No. 4 in doubles in the Mountain Region.
