COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — For the second week in a row, and for the fourth time this season, Justin Armbruester has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the week, becoming the first pitcher this season to earn the honor four times.
Armbruester pitched a complete game versus the Spartans, leading the Lobos to a doubleheader sweep. On the mound, he held the Spartans scoreless through six innings, allowing the Lobos to jump ahead 14-2
Overall, in the game, Armbruester faced 26 batters, struck out 12, allowed just five hits, and walked none. He is the first New Mexico pitcher to not allow a walk in a complete game since 2016 (Carson Schneider vs. San Diego State).
Armbruester currently leads the Mountain West in ERA (3.45), opposing batting average (.222), innings pitched (73.0), batters struck out (93), and batters struck out looking (30).
Armbruester and the Lobos will play at home for the last series of the season tabbed to take place May 28-29. The three-game series versus San Diego State will start with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. MT on Friday. The final game of the season, and head coach Ray Birmingham’s final game of his career, will take place on Saturday at Noon at Santa Ana Star Field. More information to come on the upcoming series.
