This will be the first and only time the Lobos and Spartans (6-23, 2-12 MW) face each other this season, as their first scheduled series was canceled earlier in the season due to COVID issues in the UNM program. The Lobos lead the all-time series record 21-13-1.

The Lobos created strong momentum last weekend, tallying 38 hits and 39 runs. The team posted ten or more hits in each of the three games last weekend, serving as the third time this season the team posted double-digit hits through a three-game series. In the first home series of the season, the Lobos tallied 39 hits in a sweep of Air Force. Last weekend, Air Force posted a four-game sweep of the Spartans, who have now dropped each of their last 10 games.

On the mound for the Lobos in game two will be Justin Armbruester, who was most recently named Mountian West Pitcher of the Week after pitching for seven innings in New Mexico’s 16-2 win over the Wolverines. The senior held UVU to four hits and rendered them scoreless through the first seven frames. Armbruester retired nine Wolverines during his time on the mound.

Hot-hitting Kyler Castillo will be a consistent force for the Lobos this weekend as he heads into the series ranked fourth in the Mountain West with a .403 average. Castillo posted seven hits, two RBIs, and seven runs in the sweep of Utah Valley and was only struck out once through 13 at-bats. You can expect big plays from Willie Cano, Lance Russell, and Shane Podsednik in this series, as they are clutch at the plate.
