COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — It was a big weekend for senior right-handed pitcher Justin Armbruester. After walking across the stage in his graduation ceremony on Saturday, Armbruester made his way to Santa Ana Star Field to pitch in game two of UNM’s three-game series versus Utah Valley. Armbruester had an impressive outing on the mound, and for his efforts over the weekend, the senior has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week.
“Justin is a great pitcher and a great young man,” said head coach Ray Birmingham. “He is very deserving.”
Armbruester pitched for seven innings in New Mexico’s 16-2 win over the Wolverines. The senior held UVU to four hits and rendered them scoreless through the first seven frames. Armbruester retired nine Wolverines during his time on the mound.
This is the third week Armbruester has been named MW Pitcher of the Week this season, and the fourth week this season that a Lobo pitcher has held the title.
Armbruester and the Lobos will now head to San Jose, Calif., to take on San Jose State, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT. The final game of the series will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. MT. The Lobos will then close out the season at Santa Ana Star Field May 28-29 as they host San Diego State.
