ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — This week, the University of New Mexico baseball team is back on the road to face off with the Air Force Falcons in Colorado Springs, Colo. It hasn’t been the smoothest season for the team, as they have been back in action for just two weeks after a pause in the season due to a positive COVID test within the team. The three-game series will start with a doubleheader on Saturday at 10 a.m. MT, and conclude with one game on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT.
However, earlier this season the Lobos started off hot, sweeping Air Force at Santa Ana Star Field in February. Since then, Castillo and Chambers have been consistent forces for the Lobo offense. Chambers is currently on a 14-game hit-streak, logging a hit in 27 of 29 games this season, and Castillo has posted a hit in 22 of 26 appearances.
Chambers has been named to the 2021 Brooks Wallace Award watch list; the College Baseball Foundation announced a few weeks back. The watch list features some of the most recognizable names in college baseball who either have paced perennial powers or led some relative newcomers to new heights. The list consists of a group of 100 of the most talented athletes in Division I college baseball.
