COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Lobo women’s tennis team won the doubles point but couldn’t get the needed singles wins, dropping a 4-2 decision to Wyoming. The match was played in Colorado Springs.
UNM’s Friday match with Colorado State was canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the CSU program.
UNM (7-4, 1-2 MW) picked up two wins in doubles in what was a tight doubles point. UNM actually fell behind 1-0, but Yue Lin “Polly” Chen and Myu Kageyama took a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles, and then UNM’s top team of Natasha Munday and Hsuan Huang won in a tiebreaker for a 1-0 lead.
UNM just couldn’t hold it though as all five singles matches that finish did so in straight sets. Wyoming took wins at Nos. 5 (6-0, 6-2) and 1 (6-4, 6-1) to make it 2-1 before UNM tied it. Hsuan Huang once again came up clutch with a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles to make it 2-2.
Sotaho Toriumi of UNM took an opening set win, but her match ever finished at No. 6 singles as Wyoming took Nos. 2 and 4 singles to end the match.
UNM heads back out on the road next week to face San Diego State in San Diego on Saturday, April 10.
