ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team will hit the road to face Air Force and Colorado College over the weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Lobos will open the weekend with a game versus the Falcons on Friday at 1 p.m. MT and will then switch gears to play the Tigers on Sunday at Noon MT.

Despite dropping a match for the first time this season last weekend, the team has had one of its best starts since the 2009 season. Thus far, the Lobos have outscored opponents 17-2, posting a total of four shutouts through six games. Not to mention making a little history along the way.

In week three, junior Alesia Garcia was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week after making UNM history, posting four goals in New Mexico’s 5-0 shutout of Colorado College. This was the first time that a Lobo posted four goals in a game at home. The last time a UNM player posted four goals was in 1996, when Laurie Hedgedorn scored four at South Alabama.

These two teams will be familiar to the Lobos, as the team defeated Air Force 4-0 and posted a historic 5-0 shutout over Colorado College, both at home earlier this season.

Redshirt-senior Gwen Maly currently leads the Mountain West in goals (6) and goals per game (1.00), and prior to the last game, had scored a goal in every game of the season. Maly will look to get back to her scoring ways, starting with Air Force. Earlier in the season, Gwen Maly posted two goals versus the Falcons, a season-high for the redshirt senior.
