Lively Named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Junior Tristin Lively of the University of New Mexico baseball team has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week. This is the third week in a row that a pitcher from New Mexico has held the MW Pitcher of the Week title.
“The New Mexico kid did outstanding,” said head coach Ray Birmingham. “Tristin will wear a pro uniform soon.”
This honor comes after Lively pitched a total of six innings in UNM’s 5-1 win over Nevada. The Las Cruces, N.M., native struck out six batters, and allowed just two hits on the day, the fewest allowed by the junior this season. Although the Wolf Pack scored in the first inning, Lively posted three 1-2-3 innings, rendering Nevada scoreless through the remainder of the game. Lively currently leads the Mountain West in opposing batting average (.171).
Lively and the New Mexico squad will now travel to San Diego, Calif., to take on San Diego State in another three-game conference series. Then, the Lobos will return home to host San Jose State April 10-11.
