Lobos Claim Nine First-Place Finishes in UNM Spring Open
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M — The University of New Mexico track and field team hosted its first outdoor home meet of the season and garnered nine first place finishes on the day.
The nine first-place finishes came from Emily Ho in women’s shotput (8.17m), Aidan Quinn in men’s long jump (6.89m), Marthe Roee in the women’s triple jump (11.33m), Gabriel Brown in the men’s pole jump (4.80m), Shannin Fritz in the women’s pole jump (3.55m), Ada’ora Chigbo in the women’s high jump (1.70m), Gannon Christman in the men’s 110m hurdles (15.58), Awet Yohannes in the men’s 1500m (4:02.34), and the women’s 4×400 team (4:11.91).
The Lobos also racked up a large number of top-five finishes, including a second-place finish from Jamari Drake in the women’s long jump at a mark of 6.02m, just behind New Mexico’s unattached Aasha Marler. Emily Ho finished in fourth place in the event, jumping at a career-high spot of 4.74m. Ho also placed second in the women’s high jump, clearing the bar at a mark of 1.60m.
Alix Rule claimed a second-place finish in the women’s pole jump, clearing the 3.40m mark on her second try. Closing out the field-event finishes was Camillo Dunninger, who finished in second place in the men’s shot put, throwing out at 12.43m. Dunninger also finished in second place in the men’s 110m hurdles at a time of 16.31.
Tatyannah Wiley (1:01.16), Andrea Benites (1:02.07), and Leigh James (1:02.55) ran in the women’s 400m dash, claiming second, third, and fourth place, respectively. In the men’s 400m dash, Bryan Cutler finished in second place at 52.57, and Dunninger finished in third, crossing the line at the 53.58 mark.
Four New Mexico runners participated in the women’s 100m dash, and unattached New Mexico runner Aasha Marler finished in second at a 12.20 mark. In fourth, fifth, and sixth place, respectively, were Alexandria Ruth (12.28), Lauren Chaffins (12.93), and Jessi King (14.00). Montez Wright was the solo Lobo running in the men’s 100m, finishing at a time of 10.90 and in fourth place overall.
Ruth (25.02), Chaffins (26.29), and King (29.15) also ran in the women’s 200m, finishing in second, fourth, and sixth place. In the men’s 200m, Wright (21.86), Cutler (23.18), and Christman (24.14) finished in fourth, eighth, and ninth place.
Participating in the women’s 400m hurdles was Abigail Bendle, who finished in third place at a time of 1:06.98. Samantha Dicker finished in seventh place in the women’s 800m and crossed the line at the 2:40.97 mark.
New Mexico distance runners in the women’s 1500 finished in second and third place. Samrawit Dishon ran unattached for the Lobos and finished in second place at a time of 4:48.29. In third place was Isabela Nellos, crossing the line at a time of 5:01.38. Celeste Martinez finished in fourth place in the women’s 3000m at a time of 11:29.53.
Men’s distance runners Harrison Smith III (4:04.01) and Benjamin Harvey (4:25.13) finished in fifth and eleventh place in the men’s 1500m run.
