Men's Golf Fifth Through Two at UT Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team sits fifth in a competitive field of 13 teams that includes five top-30 nationally-ranked squads. The No. 27 Lobos finished +5 through the first two rounds with round three set to begin Tuesday.

Leading the competition is No. 2 Oklahoma which finished -13 through the first two rounds, followed by No. 12 Texas, coming in at -11. No. 11 Oklahoma State sits third with a score of -5 followed by Texas Tech (E) and UNM.

The Lobos, who rank third in birdies with 31 and fourth in par-4 scoring (4.10, +11), were led by junior Sam Choi who is tied for sixth carding a score of 70 in both of the first two rounds to finish 140, -2 on the day.

Choi tied for third in par-4 scoring (3.86, -3) and fourth in pars with 26.

Sophomore Albert Boneta shot a one-under score of 141 posting a 70 in round one and a 71 in round two followed by redshirt-senior Ross Sinclair (147, +5). Sinclair shot a 75 in round one before shaving off three strokes for a one-over 72 in round two.

Junior Ignacio Arcaya carded a 76 in round one but rebounded with an even 71 in round two for a total of +5 on the day while freshman Bastien Amat followed suit with a 78 in round one and a one-under 70 in the second round.

Amat performed well throughout the majority of round one but carded an eight on the par-4 hole 18 to drop in the standings.

UNM will tee off round three Tuesday with a double tee start at 9 a.m. CT / 8 a.m. MT.
