Get to Know the 'Bos - Bobby Meza
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.– Sophomore transfer from Yavapai College, Bobby Meza, has had a big year, both on and off the field. Meza’s most notable appearance on the mound this season was in Surprise, Ariz., in the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic. The sophomore had a huge strikeout in the ninth inning versus K-State, giving the Lobos a chance at a walk-off win, and the Lobos did just that.
The sophomore, however, did not make an appearance in the team’s most recent series versus UNLV. That is because Meza was welcoming his newborn daughter into the world.
Meza was ready to play in the three-game series in Las Vegas, Nev. when he got the text that his wife, Jaycee Lindley Meza, was in labor.
“I felt a rush for sure she texted me that she thought her water broke. We originally had planned for the baby to come the Tuesday after the game,” said Meza. “That feeling of knowing that she was coming that day was crazy. I called our coaches and told them (the news) and they instantly said, ‘Go be with your family’ and to let them know how it goes.”
Meza made it on time to Arizona to be with his wife and welcome Paisley Ana Meza to the world on Saturday, March 6th.
“It feels surreal right now just waking up and seeing this little girl and knowing I get to raise her and support her in every way makes the thought of being a father that much easier.”
The entire UNM baseball team, now known as Paisley’s uncles, was excited about the new addition.
“Everyone was shocked that he had to leave the day we arrived in Vegas, but we were so happy and excited for him,” said senior Jarrett Gonzales. “He was almost shaking when he got the call.”
“It was nice to have the support of my coaches and teammates the whole way. It really made me feel a lot better about having to leave before the games, and it just goes to show that the brotherhood of this team is truly unmatched,” said Meza.
Paisley may not know it yet, but she already has a pretty big fan base here in Albuquerque, N.M., an entire baseball team’s worth.
