Women’s Tennis Signs Schalekamp of The Netherlands
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico head women’s tennis coach Vicky Maes has announced the latest signee for the 2021-22 season, Sanne Schalekamp, of Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Schalekamp is the third signee for the 2021-22 season. She joins Sarah O’Connor of Dublin, Ireland and Stefanie Frias Da Silva of Vancouver, British Columbia.
“Sanne is a great addition to our program. She is athletic, driven, and ambitious in her goals, everything we look for in our student-athletes,” said Maes. “Sanne chose UNM to help in her future development and we are committed to help her in this process. Along with Sarah and Stefanie, she joins a solid recruiting class for us as we continue to build a competitive program.”
A native of The Netherlands, Sanne has been ranked as high as number three in her home country while also being a top multi-sport athlete. In tennis, Sanne has reached a career-high ITF juniors ranking of 560 and is currently a 9.5 in the Universal Tennis Ratings. Until deciding to focus solely on the sport of tennis at the age of 16, Sanne played field hockey at a high level as well and was a member of the Dutch National Skiing Team. Sanne currently trains at Amjoy Tennis Academy in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
