O'Grady Hits Home Run in Lobo Loss to Arizona State
TEMPE, Ariz.— Senior Cameryn O’Grady again led The University of New Mexico at the plate after going 2-for-3 and hitting her second home run in as many days to account for the only runs of the game for the Lobos in the 11-3 loss to Arizona State on Sunday.
Arizona State was the first to get on the board in the bottom of the first inning with three runs, a double to right that scored the leadoff hitter from third and a two-run home run to center.
The Lobos were quick to respond, with Rachael Hathoot hitting a double to left field to start the inning followed two at-bats later by a walk for Peyton Robinson to turn the lineup over to the top of the order. With two outs, O’Grady tied the game on one swing with a home run to center field. The senior’s home run was the first allowed by ASU starting pitcher Allison Royalty and led to a quick pitching change.
Three of UNM’s five hits in the game came in the top of the second, with O’Grady also hitting a single to left field to start off the game and a Hathoot single in the sixth.
After a scoreless third, Arizona State scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to break the tie on three hits and benefitted from two Lobos errors.
Alynah Torres hit her second home run of the game in the fifth and added two more runs on back-to-back singles and a home run to center by Denae Chatman in the sixth enforced the run-rule to end the game.
Emma Guindon took the loss, pitching another complete game for the Lobos, her fourth of the season.
