Men’s Tennis Adds Joel Pierleoni

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After the 2021 season, the UNM Men’s Tennis team will have some new faces joining after returning the whole squad for this years’ campaign. The first signee will make an immediate impact on the program and brings with him an extensive list of accolades from his junior career. Joel Pierleoni of Great Britain.

The athletic 6-3 Brit would add another lefty to the Lobo arsenal.  His highest ITF Junior World Ranking is 157 and his UTR high ranking was 12.47.  Pierleoni trained at the Junior Tennis Coaching Academy.

“This is a great addition to the team as Joel has an extensive tennis resume and is very driven towards using UNM as a springboard to playing pro tennis after college,” said Dunbar.  “We are excited to work and grow with him over the next four years and get to work on helping him reach his goals. Joel will be an integral member of the team and will push us towards our team goals with his commitment and willingness to learn.”

Pierleoni participated in the 2018 Junior Davis Cup, and was a U14 European doubles champion and finished in fifth at the U14 Orange Bowl singles.  He has represented Team Great Britain in the Junior Davis Cup and the European Championships from U10 – U16.  He also owns ITF singles titles from Cyprus G4 and finished runner-up at Dubai G4 and Rhodes G4.  He also has an ITF doubles title at The Hague G4, finishing runner up at Oslo G4 and Turkey G3.

Said Dunbar, “This is a great day to be a Lobo.”
