Lobos Move to Fourth in National Rankings

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Since the first week of the season, the women’s cross country team has consistently ranked in the top-five of the NCAA D1 Women’s Cross Country National Coaches’ Poll. Today, the women have moved up to fourth in the Week 5 rankings released today.

Improving from a fifth-place ranking in Week 4, New Mexico tallied a total of 295 points, just 10 points below No. 3 NC State. Arkansas and BYU claimed the first two spots of the list for the send week in a row, with Arkansas claiming the No. 1 spot every week this season.

The women will open their season this Friday at the Battle Born Collegiate Cross Country Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev. The Lobos will have 11 runners in Race #4 starting at 11:45 a.m. MT.

Friday’s race will be the women’s lone event before the Mountain West Championships tabbed for March 5 in Las Vegas, Nev. The NCAA Championships will take place on March 15 in Stillwater, Okla.
