ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will resume Mountain West play this weekend as it takes on the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels on Saturday in game one of the series on CBS Sports Network. Tipoff will be 3:35 p.m. MT / 2:25 p.m. PT.

Saturday’s game will also be available to follow via Live Stats.

The Lobos (4-6, 0-6 MW) enter the game coming off of a nine-point victory over the WAC’s Dixie State on Wednesday. The Lobos snapped a six-loss streak with the win.

UNLV (2-6, 0-2 MW) comes into the series coming off of three recent games in January after most of its December schedule was canceled or postponed. The Runnin’ Rebels also picked up a non-conference matchup this week and claimed a 95-34 win over St. Katherine in the Thomas & Mack. Prior to that win, UNLV dropped its first conference series at Colorado State, both games by three points.

New Mexico is led by senior Makuach Maluach who posts 13.6 points per game, 11.5 in MW play. Maluach also leads the Lobos in rebounds on the season with 5.9 but in conference play the honor goes to redshirt-freshman Bayron Matos (4.0).

UNLV is led by three players scoring in double figures on the season including junior Bryce Hamilton
(21.3), junior David Jenkins Jr. (15.4) and sophomore Caleb Grill (11.4) while senior Cheikh Mbacke
Diong leads the squad in rebounds with 8.4 per game. In MW play, Hamilton and Jenkins average 25.5 and 20.0 points, respectively, and Mbacke Diong boasts 13.5 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY
UNLV leads the all-time series between the teams 37-25 including a 21-9 advantage in the Thomas & Mack.

The Runnin’ Rebels have claimed the last four straight games between the teams including a narrow five-point win in their last meeting, which was in Albuquerque on Feb. 15, 2020.

THE COACHES
Head coach Paul Weir is 56-53 in his fourth year at the helm of the Lobos, 84-59 in his fifth season as a head coach. UNLV head coach T.J. Otzelberger is 19-21 in his second season with the Runnin’ Rebels and is 89-54 in his career.
