Maddy Archer To Compete in 2021 Canadian Olympic Trials

OTTAWA, Ont., Canada — Swimming Canada has released the preliminary 2021 Olympic Trial lists, which will take place in Toronto in April.   The trials are how athletes qualify for the 2021 games in Tokyo from July 23 through August 8.  New Mexico freshman swimmer Maddy Archer was invited to compete in the trials in a pair of events

Archer, who hails from Canada and considers both Ottawa and Halifax, Nova Scotia as her hometowns, was among the top 30 Canadian swimmers in three events.  Invitations were extended to a maximum of  20 swimmers in each distance.  Swimming Canada released its preliminary top 30 in each event, and Archer was listed three times.

Archer is 17th in the women’s 1,500-yard freestyle and 20th in the 800-yard freestyle, earning invitations in both of those events.  She had a shot at a third trial event in the 400-yard freestyle, where she has Canada’s 29th-best time in 2020.

Archer is one of 14 newcomers to the 2020-21 Lobo swimming and diving team in a deep and talented class.  The Lobos, who picked up nearly 80% of its conference championship meet points from underclassmen last year, have 23 freshmen and sophomores on the squad.
